Facts, Intimacy can be very difficult for people who are suffering arthritic pain. It has a major impact on our daily activities, among the most significant of these activities, yet perhaps the least talked about, are sex and intimacy. The physical and emotional hardships that result from arthritis can create barriers that undermine sexual needs, ability and satisfaction.

There are several ways to overcome physical and emotional complications, but the element common to each solution is open communication between you and your partner. Here are some tips that you may find helpful.

Managing Daily Activitiesone-day-at-a-time

If you have arthritis, you probably know by now even simple daily activities can become a lot harder. Arthritis can turn even the simplest tasks like dressing, washing or bending down to pick up things can be very challenging. Feeling tired and drained of energy only makes things worse.

Allow your self rest in between chores and include stretching exercises before you start your day. Make a plan or a list of things to do for the next day, this way you can pace your work load and you can insert relaxation or rest periods after every difficult task. Managing your activities throughout the day will lessen the feeling of fatigue and gives you more energy to spend with your partner later in the day.

Be Open with your partner

LetsTalk-lipsTalking to your partner and being open about your limitations in performing under the sheets can be very helpful. Sex and intimacy are important components of a relationship and there are steps that you and your partner can do to enjoy intimacy even with arthritis. Each should be committed into creating a meaningful intimacy by keeping an open and positive attitude.

For some “scheduling intimacy” can be helpful. By scheduling both partners can take some measures like doing stretching exercise, taking a warm bath and taking pain medication prior to bed sports can ensure a pleasurable time together.
